Kate Paradise was formally introduced to jazz in 1997 while attending a summer music program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. She continued pursuing her interest in jazz performance winning placement in multiple New Hampshire Jazz All-State festivals. Kate graduated from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in May 2003 with a Bachelor's of Music degree in Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance.
Currently, Kate is a teaching assistant at the University of Miami to Jazz Vocal chairman, Lawrence Lapin, while she pursues her Master's degree. She has accumulated extensive hours of recording and live performance experience as well as intensive instruction in arranging, composition, harmony and jazz piano. Her experience performing in and conducting jazz vocal ensembles has also been a valuable part of her training. Kate is Assistant Director and vocalist in the award-winning collegiate ensemble, JV1. In 2002 her solo recording earned her Downbeat Magazine's award for an Outstanding Solo Jazz Vocal Performance.
In the past four years Kate has had the pleasure of working with such renowned artists as Carmen Lundy, Kevin Mahogany, Kurt Elling, Elaine Elias and Claudia Acuna. Her sound melds classic jazz repertoire with artful arranging, resulting in intelligent yet accessible music, appropriate for any number of audiences and venues. The warmth and intimacy in Kate's voice is distinctly simple while delivering profoundly complex and wide ranging emotions to the listener.
Kate's teaching is unique in that it combines microphone singing styles with healthy vocal technique.
